Description
A locked metal box beneath the floor of Room 205 should have been the best mystery of the school year. For fifth graders Mina, Theo, June, and Kit, it becomes something much bigger. Inside are letters written by children in 1976—and the first hint that their school’s official history left someone out.
As renovations threaten to scatter decades of records, the four classmates follow a trail through newspaper microfilm, old school maps, a mysterious routing code, and a warehouse full of forgotten files. But when Theo jumps to a conclusion about a photograph, the rumor he spreads hurts a real family. Solving the mystery will take more than being clever. It will take patience, honesty, and the courage to admit when the evidence says something different.
With help from their teacher and local historians, the students race to uncover the truth behind the letters—and give one former student the correction she has waited fifty years to see.
An engaging, thoughtful school mystery about friendship, fairness, and the difference between a good guess and a proven fact.
