Description
On the morning Wrenbridge celebrates the return of its historic lakeshore railway, a wealthy donor steps away from seat twelve and never comes back.
Malcolm Vane is discovered dead in the baggage car before the inaugural journey is over. The train has stayed on its scheduled route. The passengers insist they saw nothing. And the photographs taken along the way seem to tell different stories.
Newspaper editor Nell Mercer and her photographer brother, Owen, know a contradiction when they see one. A camera timestamp, a peculiar arrangement of clothing, and a lonely stop beside the marshland lead them into a maze of mistaken recollections and closely guarded financial secrets.
But the closer they come to the truth, the less either sibling can trust what the passengers think they remember. To solve the case, Nell and Owen must reconstruct the journey minute by minute—and discover who stood to lose everything if Malcolm Vane told the truth.
A standalone, fair-play murder mystery and the first investigation in The Wrenbridge Mysteries.
